Basically, shared hosting is good enough, for 90% of websites. Dedicated servers are a lot better, but they are at least 10 times more expensive.

I have never heard of that web host and Ive been web designing for 7 years. I still haven’t found a web host that’s actually reliable and cost $1/Month. It might be a scam.

They are great for low cost domain registration as well as web hosting. Right now they have a free 3 month trial period for their Home package which, unless you start getting more than a thousand hits a day, is perfect for starting off. They have some click and build interface stuff too for getting your blog off the ground. I know, I sound like a fanboy but, I’ve been with them since 2003 and have never regretted it. Yeah, godaddy is the hot thing right now but, they charge extra for private domain registration (that means that it hides your personal information from other people who look for it on whois.com). With 1and1.com, private registration is free.
Whatever you do, make sure you do a realistic assessment of your hosting needs. Don’t go buying a huge hosting package it you aren’t going to end up using the bandwidth. Shop around and do some price comparisons. See what the different companies offer with their packages and what will actually be of value to you.
